Dental implants replace missing teeth, improving your appearance and preventing bone loss in your jaw at the site of the lost teeth. If the bone in your tooth socket isn't deep enough or strong enough to support an implant, your Cooper City Dentist at Miracle Dentistry, LLC may recommend a bone graft.

Why do I need a graft?

Your dentist drills into your jawbone to place the post for your dental implant. If there's not enough bone or the existing bone is soft, the implant can fail. Bone grafts build up the jaw so that there is sufficient bone to anchor the post.

How do I receive the graft?

During bone graft surgery, your dentist opens the gum over the missing tooth and places the graft over the jawbone. Synthetic or bovine grafts may be used, or your dentist may obtain grafts from a tissue bank or your own jaw, hip or tibia.

How does the graft strengthen the jawbone?

Over time, the graft will grow into the surrounding bone. When you visit your dentist in Cooper City, he or she will evaluate your progress and let you know when you can begin the next step in the implant process. It generally takes about six months for the graft to integrate with your jawbone, although that time may vary depending on your circumstances.

What happens after I receive the graft?

When your dentist determines that the graft is strong enough to support the implant, he or she will drill into the jawbone to place the post that holds the implant. Over the next three to six months, the post will integrate with your jawbone. When the implant has fully integrated, your dentist will add an abutment that will eventually hold a dental crown.

You don't have to suffer the embarrassment of missing teeth. Jawbone problems are no longer a barrier to dental implants, thanks to high-tech bone grafting techniques. Call Miracle Dentistry, LLC, your Cooper City Dental professionals, at (954) 885-9560 or (954) 431-3025 to find out if a bone graft can help restore your smile.
